Islam: A Message of Peace and Harmony
Islam is built upon a simple yet profound concept: Monotheistic Faith (Tawhid). It is the belief that this universe has one Creator—Merciful and Sustaining—and that the relationship between a human and their Creator is direct, rooted in love and justice.
As the Quran states regarding God’s mercy:
"My mercy encompasses all things." (Quran 7:156)
The Core of the Faith
According to the path of "Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah" (the mainstream body of Muslims who follow the teachings of the Prophet and his companions), Islam is not merely a set of rituals; it is a "way of life." It calls for the prosperity of the earth and the respect for human dignity regardless of race or background.
Muhammad ﷺ: The Prophet of Mercy
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ holds a central place in the hearts of Muslims as a human being chosen by God to be a role model. The Quran describes his mission saying:
"And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds." (Quran 21:107)
His life was defined by kindness, even toward those who disagreed with him. He taught that compassion is universal:
"The Merciful One shows mercy to those who are merciful. Be merciful to those on earth, and the One above the heavens will have mercy upon you." (Prophetic Tradition/Hadith)
Tolerance and Social Ethics
Tolerance in Islam is a moral strength. This is reflected in several key areas:
- Kindness to All: Islam commands good treatment of all people, including neighbors of different faiths. The Quran instructs:"Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away..." (Quran 4:36)Scholars have noted that this includes neighbors of all creeds and backgrounds.
- Unwavering Justice: A Muslim is required to be fair to everyone, without exception:
"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives." (Quran 4:135)
- Peaceful Coexistence: The Quran explicitly encourages kindness toward those who live in peace with Muslims:
"Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion... from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly." (Quran 60:8)
Islam invites everyone to seek meaning and to live with an inner peace that overflows as goodness and mercy to the entire world.
